Mark Meets a Million: The Power of a Simple Hello

I’ve always believed in the power of connection. Whether it’s business, leadership or life in general—success comes down to the relationships we build. But somewhere along the way, we’ve started to forget the simple joy of talking to people, of meeting someone new just for the sake of it. That’s where Mark Meets a Million comes in.

The idea? Simple. I’m setting out to meet a million people. Now, is it realistic? Not a chance. But that’s the fun of it! This isn’t about hitting a number—it’s about pushing myself (and hopefully, others) to embrace spontaneity, step outside comfort zones and rediscover the magic of genuine human interaction.

Why This? Why Now?

In today’s world, we’re more “connected” than ever, yet somehow, real conversations are happening less and less. We hide behind emails, texts and carefully curated social media posts. We network when we need something. We talk to people when there’s a reason. But what if the reason was just… curiosity? What if we approached someone just to learn something new, share a laugh or see the world from a different perspective?

That’s what Mark Meets a Million is all about. It’s a challenge, a social experiment and—let’s be honest—a bit of an adventure.

The Fun (and Fear) of Talking to Strangers

Let’s face it—walking up to a stranger and striking up a conversation isn’t always easy. But that’s what makes it exciting. Every interaction is a wild card. One day, I might meet a retired pilot with stories that belong in a book. The next, a college student who teaches me the latest slang I’ll butcher in my next speech.

I’ll be asking unexpected, off-the-wall questions—ones that force people (and me) to think outside the usual small talk. I want real, raw, unscripted moments that remind us why personal connection matters. And honestly? I have no idea what’s going to happen. That’s the best part.

What This Means for You

Maybe you’re reading this and thinking, that sounds fun, but I could never do that. Maybe you’re right. But maybe, just maybe, this sparks something in you. Maybe the next time you’re in line for coffee, you strike up a conversation instead of scrolling through your phone. Maybe you reconnect with an old colleague or introduce yourself to someone at an event without waiting for a perfect reason.

Because here’s the truth; success in business isn’t just about what you know—it’s about who you connect with and how you build relationships. And more importantly, how you show up when you do.

So, here’s my challenge to you: Meet one new person this week. Ask them something unexpected. Be curious. You never know where one conversation might lead.

And as for me? I’ve got 999,999 more people to meet. Let’s get started.

I Reacted Too Fast and Got It Wrong—Here’s What I Learned

We’ve all been there. A problem lands on your desk, emotions run high and before you know it, you’ve reacted—maybe a little too quickly. I recently had an experience that reminded me why taking a step back before making a decision is one of the most valuable skills a leader (or anyone in business) can develop.
